Ashrâf, (s. Sharif) is an Arabic term
referring to someone claiming descent from Muhammad by way
of his daughter Fatima. The word comes from Arabic sharif (=
noble), from sharafa (= to be highborn).
Ashraf is an early variant name for Behshahr, Iran.
It is also an Arabic name meaning "most honourable one."
